We began installing augercast piles in the late 1970s. Since then, numerous projects have been completed ranging from relatively small commercial projects to power plants with several thousand piles. Morris-Shea commonly uses pile diameters ranging up to 24 inches to depths in excess of 100 feet.
Restricted access augercast rigs with short auger sections are frequently used where strengthening of existing foundations or addition of new foundations in low-headroom or restricted access situations are required. In the appropriate soil profile, augercast piles provide a relatively low-cost foundation support but can be problematic in granular soils below the water table.
